Working in the organic industry for over 20 years as a farmer, organic certifier and now as an organic processor, I believe everyone is aware of what it means to be organic. Organic farming produces food that is cleaner (without pesticide residues), healthier (containing more nutrients) and having less road miles on it (local).
But I believe we need to clarify what it means to be a certified organic processor in regards to our high-oleic sunflower oil. From field to bottle, we at Century Sun Oil, working together with our organic certification agency (MOSA), are in total control of our sunflowers!
At harvest we receive an organic certificate from our farmers. Then we coordinate with truckers who document that their semis have been swept and washed (if necessary) to meet organic standards. Upon delivery, the newly-harvested sunflower seeds are cleaned, dried, and put into our farm storage bins to maintain quality until they are pressed into oil.
Inside our processing facility, we are inspected annually to ensure organic integrity. Audit trails are set up (along with monitored procedures) which document pounds of sunflowers and oil passing through our various processing equipment. Also, our oil is cold pressed - which means through ALL phases of processing, the oil never reaches temperatures of over 125 degrees Fahrenheit. (Ours rarely gets over 100 degrees.)
Our filtration process consists only of a pressurized pump, which moves our oil through food grade (and organically approved) filter media to remove all small particles. Bottling is also done in a separate, secure room where we place even closer attention to cleanliness and organic integrity. Once we seal the bottles, they're ready for shipment, fully ensuring the oil as certified organic and food quality safe.
Our high-oleic certified organic sunflower oil is US grown, US produced, and US bottled. And we are closely involved in all aspects of growing and production. Taste the difference, and take pride in supporting a true USA food product!
